FMCG Monitor: Q2 2020
The Philippine economy entered the recession territory in the second quarter of 2020. From a stable performance in the previous quarter, we can now see Filipino homes decreasing their total household expenditure. As a consumption-driven economy, this heavily contributed to the said economic decline.
Similar with the total household expenditure, Filipino homes continue to spend less on In-home FMCG via fewer shopping trips. Decline in YTD June 2020 heavily driven by SEC C2D; however, there still is an opportunity for manufacturers/brands to target SEC ABC1 as their spending remains stable. In terms of channel, Groceries and Online continue to grow in terms of sales.
Focusing on the impact of the pandemic to the in-home FMCG of NCR, Personal Care declined the most among the mega sectors in the region.
